Several community organizations stepped forward to help replace the old scoreboard at Community Stadium.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Time has a way of sneaking up on not just people, but also equipment.

At the Oskaloosa Community Stadium, time had been the scoreboard’s worst enemy over the past 5 years. With much of the display no longer functioning, funds were made available by area businesses and groups to help once again make the score and time visible to visitors at the stadium.

The Pella Corporation Foundation, along with the Elks Club, Fareway, and the Oskaloosa Booster Club all contributed to the new scoreboard.

Oskaloosa Community High School Activities Director Ryan Parker explained what is in store for the stadium, and what importance the facility still plays for the district. “It’s a great facility for our middle school football. It allows us a lot of different avenues.”

Parker said that middle school track utilizes the facility. “It’s a big plus.” Parker explained that having three teams, William Penn, the high school and middle school all utilizing a single facility at the same time proved to be very difficult, and at times proved to be hazardous. “It’s just the betterment of our programs to have a facility like this.”

Parker said that the district has taken steps this past year to rehabilitate several facilities in the district. Gym floors at the high school were renovated, along with a new scoreboard being added. Baseball and Softball fields have been bettered by new concrete and fencing, to help with visibility and to facilitate handicap accessibility.

“It’s all across-the-board, and we’re not going to forget about this stadium either,” said Parker.
