Navarro, Stoop Sweep Heart POW Awards

Oskaloosa–Mario Navarro (Grad, Mira, Spain, Masters of Sports Management) and Rob Stoop (Jr., Bosch en Duin, Netherlands, Exercise Science) helped the Statemen men’s soccer team to a strong week, and for their efforts they were named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Players of the week Monday.

Navarro, who was chosen as the league’s Offensive POW, and Stoop, who was named the Defensive POW, are both first-time recipients. They led William Penn to a one win and one tie last week.

Navarro did all of his damage in last Friday’s 10-0 win over Culver-Stockton. The graduate student scored four times, including three in the first half.

Stoop anchored the defense in last Tuesday’s 1-1 tie versus Missouri Valley. In addition to limiting the Vikings to only eight shots, the junior also posted WPU’s lone goal.

Stoop then led his squad to its ninth shutout of the year against Culver-Stockton.

For the year, Navarro has four goals and an assist, while Stoop has tallied one goal and one assist.

WPU now has six weekly awards this year.
