Mildred Opal McMains, 96, formerly of New Sharon, IA, died August 27, 2014, at White Pine Senior Living in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Opal, as she preferred to be called, was born June 26, 1918, at the family home in rural New Sharon, IA, the daughter of James Roy Kisor and Katie Burggraaf.

Opal and her husband Donald farmed in the Barnes City and New Sharon areas and she worked for many years as the bookkeeper for the Farmers Co-op. Opal and Donald enjoyed many happy years of retirement, traveling to Texas for the winter months. They moved permanently to San Juan, TX, in 2001 and Opal lived there until 2014. She made many dear friends there and very much missed them when she had to move away.

She is survived by her son, Larry (& Georgia) McMains; two granddaughters: Michelle (& Robert) Bley, and Renee Munro; one Great-granddaughter, Olivia Grace Munro; one niece and two nephews.

A private service for the family will be held at Union Mills Cemetery on September 8th, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be sent to the New Sharon Fire & Rescue Department or the New Sharon Area Historical Society.
