(Mildred) Maxine Uitermarkt, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born Thursday, December 20, 1923, in New Sharon, the daughter of Earl and Nita Hyett Riggs.

Maxine graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the Class of 1942.

From 1942 until 1946, Maxine worked at the Mahaska County Rationing Office in Oskaloosa. In 1949, she went to work as the secretary at Bray, Carson and McCoy Law Office, now McCoy, Faulkner and Broerman Law Office, and retired from there in 1992.

On November 16, 1950, Maxine was united in marriage to Albert Uitermarkt in Kingsland, Georgia. Albert passed away on October 11, 2005.

Maxine was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa and Ladies Bible Hour. She enjoyed reading, flowers and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her son, David Uitermarkt of Oskaloosa; a stepson, Steven Uitermarkt of Fall Branch, Tennessee; and a step grandson, Gregory Uitermarkt of Phoenix, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Uitermarkt; her parents; a daughter, Diane Uitermarkt; a sister, Leta Morrow; and a brother, Harold “Bill” Riggs.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2016, at 10 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Dale Visser officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Friday, July 1, 2016, at 2 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Friday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Christian School Music Department or to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
