Beasley, Thomas Win Weekly Accolades
Beasley Awarded for Fourth Time
Oskaloosa–Brandon Beasley (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind., Physical Education) was irreplaceable as his Statesmen basketball team remained undefeated in the league last week, and he was rewarded for his efforts by being named Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday.
The senior earned his fourth laurel as #2 William Penn (21-1, 5-0 MCC) picked up wins over Viterbo and #7 Mount Mercy.
Beasley averaged 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks in the victories. His best performance came in the top-ten battle versus the Mustangs, scoring 26 points while battling against foul trouble (two early violations). He shot 53.3% from the field (19-of-30) and 63.3% from the line (19-of-30) last week.
For the year, Beasley is averaging 18.8 points and 7.5 rebounds in addition to 76 assists, 50 steals, and 27 blocks. He is shooting 51.8% overall and owns a 69.3% clip from the charity stripe.
The award is the sixth of the season for William Penn.
Honor #4 Given to Thomas
Oskaloosa–Orielle Thomas (Sr., Waynesville, Mo., Physical Education) was again a force around the basket in earning Midwest Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week laurels Monday.
The four-time winner (fifth in her career), Thomas led the Lady Statesmen to wins against Viterbo and Mount Mercy. William Penn (13-7, 4-1 MCC) has now won a season-high four games in a row.
Thomas posted a double-double average with 13.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per outing. She scored 16 points versus Viterbo, and then corralled 18 rebounds (one shy of her career high) in the Mount Mercy matchup. The senior also averaged 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals in addition to a 58.3% field-goal percentage (7-of-12) and a 92.9% free-throw clip (13-of-14).
For the year, Thomas is producing a double-double of 13.9 points and 11.9 rebounds (nine double-doubles). She is shooting 49.8% overall in addition to 30 steals, 28 assists, and seven blocks.
