Michael “Mike” Eugene Shehan, age 73, of Albia, IA, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, under the care of EveryStep Hospice. Mike was born on March 18, 1949, at the hospital in Newton, IA, to William “Gene” and Mary (Dailey) Shehan.

Mike graduated in 1967 from Albia High School after attending 11 different schools around the country. Mike then went to Indian Hills Community College where he obtained his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Upon completing school, Mike enlisted and served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

On March 4, 1970, he was united in marriage to Deb Mosley at Camp Pendleton in California and to this union, a son, Troy, was born.

After returning from the service, Mike went to work at John Deere Ottumwa Works, where he worked on assembly, was a machine operator, and a welder before his retirement in 2004.

Mike was a member of the American Legion Howard Cessna Post 136. He was on a constant quest to gain knowledge and could often be found reading and researching. He was very talented and once built a model of the USS Constitution, “Old Ironsides.” Mike was also passionate about astronomy and had multiple telescopes to stargaze with. In his younger years, Mike enjoyed being outdoors and deer hunting. He had a love for animals, especially his dogs, Rusty, Mr. Bud, Deacon, and Coco. Above all else, Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Mike is survived by his wife, Deb Shehan of Albia; his son, Troy Shehan of Iowa City; his twin brother, Pat (& Linda) Shehan of Ottumwa; other siblings, Bill (& Dana) Shehan of Fort Madison, and Marsha (& Randy) Leffler of Albia. Mike is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

Per Mike’s wishes, his body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

A memorial has been established to the Welcome Home Soldier Monument in Albia.
