Men’s Soccer Selected Fifth of Seven Teams
Oskaloosa–Despite having a new skipper at the helm, the Statesmen men’s soccer team is in the same position as last year at this time as the Midwest Collegiate Conference released its preseason coaches’ poll Monday.
William Penn was 8-11-1 last year (2-4 MCC), but upset #3 seed St. Ambrose in the postseason tournament’s opening round to make its first semifinal appearance since 2006.
Defending MCC champion Grand View is a unanimous pick to again hoist the hardware with 49 points and all seven first-place votes.
Mount Mercy (39), St. Ambrose (31), and AIB (30) all received at least one second-place vote to be in a tight fight for second. The Statesmen lead the also-ran area in fifth place with 18 points, while Clarke (16) and Viterbo (13) round out the order.
William Penn, under the leadership of Interim Head Coach Raphael Martinez, opens 2013 by traveling to Forest City to face Waldorf on August 24.
