Menendez, Johnson Win Player of the Month Honors

Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the August and September Player of the Month honor recipients.

Sophomore men’s soccer player Miguel Menendez (Oviedo, Spain, Wellness and Recreation) earned the Male award, while senior women’s volleyball player Alyvia Johnson (Owatonna, Minn., Business Management) claimed the Female honor. The laurel is Menendez’s first in his career and Johnson’s third.

Menendez tallied four goals and eight assists in 11 games, playing a key role in the Statesmen men’s soccer team’s best start in program history. Ranked a historic best at #6, the team has relied on Menendez’s contributions, including two game-winning goals. He recorded six multi-point contests during the two months with three-point performances coming against Morningside on August 21 and Briar Cliff on September 7.

In 16 matches over the span of the two months, Johnson tallied 216 kills (4.00 per set) at a .188 attack clip. The senior also contributed 179 digs (3.31 per set), along with 10 service aces and 14 blocks. She produced nine double-doubles (kills and digs) with a high of 23 kills and 24 digs against Mayville State on August 17.
