Mathew Goodwin, 39, of Greene and formerly of Oskaloosa died Sunday, January 30, 2022, at his home in Greene, Iowa. He was born November 24, 1982, in Iowa City, the son of Fred Vernon and Diane Kerr Goodwin.
Matt attended school in Oskaloosa.
In May of 2001, he was united in marriage to Shannon Hole in Oskaloosa. To this union two children were born, Reece and Jaysa. The two of them were divorced in November of 2011. Matt and Shannon stayed close friends even after their divorce.
Matt later married Angel Reeves. To this union a son Avery was born. Mathew and Angel later divorced.
Following school, Matt worked at Sigourney Foods. Lastly, he worked at T.P.I.
Matt was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing and woodworking. He also enjoyed music especially playing guitar with Reece and playing drums to his own rhythm. Matt loved to treasure hunt, he had an eye for collecting cool old and rare stuff. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family. He was a wonderful cook, and everyone looked forward to the meals he would prepare. He will be remembered for his quick wit and his knack for making people smile.
His family includes his three children: Reece Goodwin of Oskaloosa, Jaysa Goodwin of Oskaloosa and Avery Goodwin of Grinnell; his mother, Diane (& Craig) Ritter of Greene, Iowa; his father, Fred Goodwin of Newton; his siblings: Chad (& Summer) Goodwin of Newton, Trisha Voss (& Brad Bennett) of Oskaloosa and Ben Goodwin of Newton; and two stepsiblings, Katrina Ritter and Cody Ritter.
Mathew is preceded in death by a sister, Dee-Dee Goodwin; his paternal grandparents, Delbert and Ruth Goodwin; his maternal grandmother, Jean Hesseltine and maternal grandfather, Leonard Kerr.
As was his wish, his body has been cremated.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022, at the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa with pastor Mike Dotson officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
