Mary Terpstra, 76, of New Sharon died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the Circle of Life Hospice Legacy Lodge in Chariton, Iowa. She was born Tuesday, October 4, 1938 in Ottumwa, the daughter of Clarence and Elsie Richards McDowell.
Mary attended school in Ottumwa. In July of 1978, Mary was united in marriage to John Terpstra in Ottumwa and John died December 26, 2013. Mary was a homemaker and worked as a clerk at John’s auctions.
Mary enjoyed traveling with John. She loved bowling in bowling league and did so for many years. She attended the Good News Chapel in Oskaloosa.
Her family includes her three sons: Billy Hart of Ottumwa, David (& Tina) Hart of Chariton and Jimmy (& Stacey) Hart of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two stepdaughters: Vickie Terpstra of Des Moines and Cindy (& Terry) Fenolio of Knoxville; a stepson, Ron Terpstra of New Sharon; two step grandsons; and a sister, Connie Serber of Ottumwa.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a stepson, Jimmy Terpstra; three sisters: June, Rosie and Laura Mae; and two brothers: Bud and Dick.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 10 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Friday, December 19, 2014 after 11 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Friday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Circle of Life Hospice Legacy Lodge in Chariton.
