Mary Margaret (Flahive) Coyne, age 94, formerly of Albia, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the Franklin Park TPC Parkway Assisted Living in San Antonio, Texas. Mary Margaret was born on November 16, 1926, to Martin Henry and Marcella Grace (Kearney) Flahive in Lovilia, Iowa.

Mary Margaret grew up in Albia and graduated from Albia High School.

Margaret married Dr. John Joseph (Jack) Coyne in 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia.

Margaret worked as a financial analyst in telecommunications for the General Services Administration in Des Moines, Iowa and in Atlanta, Georgia for many years.

After retiring in 1994 she returned to Des Moines where she was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale. In 2008, Margaret moved to San Antonio to be near her daughter. She enjoyed line dancing, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

Mary Margaret is survived by her son, Timothy (& Mary) Coyne of Santa Rosa, California, granddaughter Elizabeth Coyne of San Ramon, California, grandson Dr. Christopher (& Dr. Becky Shatsky-) Coyne of San Diego, California, and great-granddaughter Bailey Coyne; daughter, Mary (& BJ) Lyttle of Mabank, Texas, granddaughter Jessica (& Justin) Jones of Little Elm, Texas, great-grandson and great-granddaughter Grey and Georgia Jones; granddaughter Lauren Lyttle of Dallas, Texas; son, Michael (& Monica Longworth-) Coyne of New York, New York, grandson Aidan Coyne of Austin, Texas, and granddaughter Glynis Coyne of Groton, Connecticut; sisters: Virgene Starcevic of Albia, Carolyn Timmins of Des Moines, Pat Farneth of Cato, New York, Kathleen Crall of Albia, Shirley Massman of Centerville, Iowa, Sandra Flahive of Des Moines, Judy Loebig of Austin, Texas; brothers: Martin Flahive of Farmers Branch, Texas, and Jim Flahive of Omaha, Nebraska.

Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Coyne; parents, Martin and Marcella Flahive; a brother, Paul; and sister, baby Theresa.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Mark Yates C.PP.S., officiating.

Burial will follow services at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Albia.

Memorials may be directed to the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Mary’s in Albia or St. Pius X in Urbandale.
