Mary Atchison, 82, of Oskaloosa passed away Wednesday evening, August 7, 2013, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Services Serenity House.
Mary Louise Atchison, daughter of William Leslie and Margaret Lourene (Woods) Northup, was born, March 13, 1931, in Ollie, Iowa. She was a 1948 graduate of Ollie High School. She married William E. Atchison in 1952. They made their home in Oskaloosa and Mary worked as a custodian for several businesses in the Oskaloosa area. She went on to work at Hardees, retiring in 1998.
Mary enjoyed playing BINGO and trips to the Meskwaki Casino. Mary also enjoyed helping her family and friends.
Mary’s family includes her son and daughter-in-law, Gerry and Donna Northup of Tipton, Iowa; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Betty (Everett) Derby of Sigourney, Iowa.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a brother, William Northup and four sisters: Neoma Gott, Virginia Schmidt, Helen Follman and Mildred Follman.
As was her wish, Mary’s body has been cremated and a private inurnment of her and her husband’s ashes will be in Rock Creek Cemetery near Ollie, Iowa. Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
