Mary Jane Gatton, age 85, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the MHP Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa. She was born on July 29, 1938, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Darlean (Noonan) Butt.

Jane attended Oskaloosa High School and graduated with the Class of 1956. She was united to Gary Gatton and divorced years later.

Jane was a homemaker for most of her life and also held several different jobs around the Oskaloosa area.

She was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi and the American Legion. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Penne) Gatton of West Des Moines, Iowa, Dean Gatton of New Sharon, Iowa, Lynn (Joe) Zeleny of Cambridge, Minnesota, Leigh (Steve Weller) Christenson of Rose Hill, Iowa; her grandchildren, Kyle (Kat) Gatton, Steffe (Bill Cunningham) Gatton, Jacob (Christina) Gatton, Adam (Jenny) Gatton, Dusty Gatton, Derek Gatton, Hanna Zeleny, Zoey Zeleny and Amanda (Matt Sytsma) Christenson; her great grandchildren, Avery Gatton, Gage Gatton, Kaden Gatton, Kole Gatton, Koehn Gatton and Kruze Gatton, Laynie Plate, Gentry Taghon and Weston Taghon, Evelyn Sytsma and Finn Sytsma; her siblings, Kay McGushin of Naples, Florida, Connie Sue Glynn of Yuma, Arizona and Betty Matusick of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Alexis Christenson; a brother, Jerry; and another brother in infancy.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with pastor Jon Nelson officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 with Janes family present to greet relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the MHP Serenity Hospice House.
