Marvin Stek, 73, of Oskaloosa died Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at his home in rural Oskaloosa. He was born Tuesday, July 4, 1944, in Oskaloosa, the son of Herman and Mildred Goodman Stek.

Marvin attended school at 6 Mile School in Rural Mahaska County.

Following school, Marvin served in the Army National Guard for six years. He also worked shearing sheep with his dad and later worked building pole buildings. Lastly, he worked at Super Sweet Feed, now known as International Ingredients. He enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie he had with his co-workers throughout the years. He retired from there as the first shift supervisor in April of 2015 after 44 years.

Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family. He was very talented at painting and doing body work on tractors and cars. He enjoyed camping, boating, riding wave runners, hunting mushrooms and cutting wood. He was a former member of Rollin’ Oldies.

His family includes his two daughters: Angie (& Mike) Caves and Tara (& Chad) Stek- Walters all of Oskaloosa; 10 grandchildren: Collin (& Amy Helm) Caves, Nathan Caves, Brooke Caves, David Stout, Jaxson Stout, D.J. Stout, Callie Walters, Shayna Walters, Makennah Walters and Caitlyn Walters; two brothers: John (& Fran) Stek of Oskaloosa and Ken (& Lisa) Stek of Ottumwa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald Stek.

As was his wish, Marvin’s body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held Monday, August 21, 2017, at 6 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday, August 21, 2017, after 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Monday from 4 P.M. until service time at 6 P.M.
