Marvin Moody, 85, of Eddyville, died Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born November 28, 1933, in Mahaska County, one of nine children born to Roland George and Eva Fern Lundy Moody.

Marvin attended Tracy Schools. Following school, he worked for a short time at Rolscreen (now Pella Corp.).

In the early 1950’s Marvin joined the United States Air Force. He was trained as an aircraft mechanic. He served three years active duty and then three years with the Air Force Reserves. Following his discharge from the military he returned to rural Mahaska County.

On December 5, 1958, he was united in marriage to Deloris “Dee” Hanna at Oskaloosa.

Marvin worked various places throughout his life. He spent many years driving truck for various companies in Iowa. He enjoyed seeing the world through the windshield of his truck. In retirement he even took his siblings on a road trip out west to show them some of the places he saw while driving over the road.

On October 11, 2008, Deloris died after nearly 50 years of marriage. Marvin stayed at their home in Eddyville until just two weeks ago when he became too ill to stay.

Marvin was a member of the American Legion. He always looked forward to early morning coffee with the guys at B.P. in Eddyville. He was an avid fisherman and camper, he especially enjoyed trips to Canada. In retirement he still loved to travel and just in the last couple of years he and his siblings traveled to Yellowstone National Park to see the sights. He delighted in spending time with his nieces and nephews.

His family includes his siblings: Norma Jean Rice of Oskaloosa, Delbert (& Judy) Moody of Tracy, Marilyn Clark of Des Moines; a brother-in-law, Elwood (& Beverly) Hanna; a sister-in-law, Donna Hanna of Pella; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Dee, Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Robert Moody and Roland “Buddy” Moody; and three sisters: Peggy Jones, Janice Moody and Mildred Wilson.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 9, at 10:00 am in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Del Bittner officiating.
Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in Eddyville, Iowa.
Graveside Military Honors will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Friday morning after 11:00 in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 Friday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House.
