Marvin Blain, 83 of Montezuma passed away peacefully Thursday morning, September 27, 2018 at his home near Montezuma under hospice care. Marvin, the son of Ival and Evelyn (Peterson) Blain, was born on August 9, 1935 at the Blain family farm near Montezuma.

He was a 1953 graduate of Montezuma High School. Marvin attended William Penn University and Iowa State University before enlisting with the United States Army.

Marvin proudly served his country and following his honorable discharge, he returned home and continued to serve with the National Guard.

On June 14, 1959, Marvin was united in marriage to Kathleen Mitchell at the Montezuma Methodist Church. To this union three children were born, Jodi, Scott and Terry.

Marvin farmed near Montezuma most of his life. While farming, he also worked at the Grocery store in Montezuma cutting meat before working for the COOP spraying fields. In 1969, Marvin started working at Amana Refrigeration. After 29 years at Amana, Marvin retired and continued to farm.

Family and Faith was very important to Marvin. He was a member of the Community Hope Church in Montezuma and enjoyed his Wednesday night Bible study group. Marvin went on a Mission Trip to Roma, TX near the Mexico border fixing and building churches. Marvin enjoyed the time he spent remodeling their home, spending time with his family and Case Tractors.

His memory will be cherished by his wife of 59 years, Kathy Blain of Montezuma; two sons, Scott (& Billee) Blain of Montezuma and Terry (& Juan Herrera) Blain of Des Moines; five grandchildren: Lynston (& Ben) Schamberger, Savannah (& James) Hunter, Skylar Waterbeck, Hannah (& Aidan) Corrales and Mariah Hightower; seven great grandchildren: Paxton, Sawyer, Truett, Levi, Logan, Lucas and Cash; a brother, Gary (& Nancy) Blain of Washington, Iowa; a sister, Jean (& Charlie) Axtell of Leesburg, Florida; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Ival and Evelyn; and his daughter, Jodi Hightower in 2012.

A memorial service will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma.
A visitation/luncheon will be held following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
