Eddyville, Iowa | Age 69

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Joel Haselhuhn, a beloved father, husband, farmer, grandfather, and believer. He departed this world on September 21, 2023. Mark was born on June 3, 1954, in Albia, Iowa, to Elaine and Lyle Haselhuhn.

Mark spent his entire life on the family farm where his deep connection to the land and his passion for farming flourished. He was not only a farmer but a true steward of the land, dedicated to preserving the family’s agricultural heritage for generations to come.

He graduated from Eddyville High School in 1972 and went to work on the farm with his father. Over the course of his life, he worked for Cargill as well as the post office, but his love was always the farm.

In 1994, he married his loving wife, Carolyn. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Anna and Emma, whom he cherished with all his heart.

While Mark had always wanted sons (and often joked about it), he loved his two daughters and raised them to be strong and independent women. He loved sharing musical endeavors with them most, never missing a band or choir concert, musical, or pageant that they were in. Investing in opportunities for both of them was important to him.

If you knew Mark, odds are you probably heard him sing. Whether at church, on stage, at a wedding, or just in the car, he always took the opportunity to grab a mic and sing. He shared his musical talents generously with his community and was a steadfast supporter of the arts.

Faith was the cornerstone of Mark’s life. As a devout member of Grace Lutheran Church, he found solace, strength, and guidance in his relationship with God. He enjoyed fellowship with the other members of the congregation and singing in the church choir.

Mark will be remembered for his smile, strong spirit, and his larger than life laugh. His legacy of love, faith, and dedication to the land and the arts will continue to inspire us all.

Mark is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carolyn Haselhuhn, of Eddyville; daughters Anna (Zach) Haines of Stockton, Missouri, and Emma Haselhuhn of Boston; Massachusetts, first grandchild Vivian Marie Haines; mother Elaine Haselhuhn of Eddyville; siblings Lois (Dave) Mick, Jan (Robin) Haselhuhn and Paul (Deb) Haselhuhn; brother-in-law Fred (LeeAnn) Rice and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Loren Haselhuhn; and his parents-in-law, Harold and Martha Rice.

In our grief, let us find solace in the knowledge that Mark has found eternal peace with his Heavenly Father, where he will continue to sing his songs and tend to the fields of Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Eddyville Funeral Chapel from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 5-7 p.m.
