Marie Stamos, 95, of Oskaloosa passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Oskaloosa on Saturday, June 29, 2019. She was born October 8, 1923, in Kenific, Oklahoma, the youngest of Chris and Bertha (Farrell) Tidwell’s ten children.

Marie delighted in telling people that she thought her name was “Baby Sis” until she entered Kindergarten. She graduated at the top of her class from Tulsa High School.

On May 29, 1942 she was united in marriage to George Alec Stamos in Bethany, Missouri. Together they raised four children, Scottie, George, Kitty, and Christopher.

Marie and George owned and operated a furniture store in Tipton, Iowa. The store is still open and is now Keller Furniture. Marie also owned a clothing shop, “Guys and Gals”. Upon George’s death she moved to Ottumwa for a time and then settled in Oskaloosa to be near her daughter Scottie.

Marie loved to garden, for many years her flower beds were the envy of her neighborhood. She was an avid reader and a frequent visitor at the public library. She saw great value in learning and education and was very proud of the fact that all her children completed college.

Marie is survived by her children, Scottie (& Eugene) Moore of Oskaloosa, Dr. George (& Melanie) Stamos of Kansas City, Kansas, and Kitty (& Jeffrey) Cawiezell of Nashville, Tennessee; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband George, Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; a son, Christopher Stamos; and a great grandson, Nicholas Moore.

As was Marie’s wish her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
