January 4, 1920 – January 30, 2016
Cedar Rapids (Deep River), Iowa | Age 96

Margery Rose, 96, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Deep River, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

Margery May Hall was born January 4, 1920 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of Homer and Lili Drake Hall.

Margery moved with her family to Omaha, Nebraska; Brooklyn, Iowa; and then to Guernsey, Iowa, where she completed her education graduating with the class of 1938.

Margery was united in marriage to Quentin E. Rose on January 25, 1946 in Marengo, Iowa. To this union came two sons, Larry and Paul, and a daughter, Kathleen.

The couple lived in Brooklyn for a short time before moving to Deep River and purchasing the first of two grocery stores. As a full time mother of three, Margery somehow managed to find time to help Quentin in both stores. Quentin died in 1987.

Marge then moved to Belle Plaine in 1993 where she was active with the Benton County Volunteers. In 2015, she relocated to the Prairie Hills Senior Living Center in Cedar Rapids.

Marge enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was an excellent seamstress and cook. She looked forward to sharing her crafts with her grandchildren and others. Marge was a lifetime member of The Order of The Eastern Star.

She is survived by her 3 children: Lawrence (& Millie) Rose of Monterey, California, Paul (& Reva) Rose of Geneva, Alabama, and Kathleen (& Rod Mefferd) Rose of Surprise, Arizona; a sister, Miriam Daniels of Belle Plaine; five grandchildren: Sandra (& Scott) Rose-Brown, James (& Niki) Rose, Cortnei (& Loran) Bruce, Anthony (& Heidi) Rose and Kelley Davenport. Marge’s life was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Lucy, Brandon, Joshua, Isaac, Jacob and Evelyn.

Margery was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Quentin Rose; a six year old sister, Ruth Hall; and a special brother-in-law, Warren Daniels.

If roses grow in heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for us.

Place them in our Mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from us.
Tell her that we love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for a while.
Because remembering her is easy:
we do it every day,
but there’s an ache within our hearts
that never goes away.
