Mahaska County Supervisor Candidate Mark Doland
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Mahaska County Supervisor Mark Doland is seeking re-election to his seat on the Board of Supervisors. Doland was elected to office to finish out the remainder of Ken Rozenboom’s term after he was elected to serve in the Iowa Senate.
Doland says he is a lifelong Iowan who chose to move to Mahaska County when he took a position at the Park Church of Christ as the full-time minister. Doland says since his arrival to Mahaska County, he’s been active in politics on the local and state level, “all the way up to presidential elections.” Doland has served as chairman of the Mahaska County Republicans and served on the State Central Committee for the Republican Party of Iowa.
Doland told Oskaloosa News that his desire to seek re-election was because, “I’ve established some relationships within the boards that I serve on. I’ve made a lot of connections and started some work and I’d like to continue that work on behalf of taxpayers of Mahaska County.”
“Long-term where we’re going to be at in 5 years, where we’re going to be at in 10 years,” is something Doland sees as one of the biggest issues facing the county. “Maintaining what we have. Not losing that.”
“I want to make sure all of our businesses here have what they need to sustain their business and allow for future growth,” said Doland. “I think we need to talk about future growth that appeals to new businesses and existing businesses.”
Doland said that projects “I’ve already started to work on” are the southeast connector, the Highway 63 corridor, and “keeping local property tax dollars used wisely”, mental health services “and one of the projects I’m kind of spearheading in the very initial phases would be a county-wide effort for the different cities, along with Iowa Architectural Foundation, to see what we can do to keep Iowa’s small towns attractive.”
“This is the very initial phase that goes out into the future,” says Doland. “I think what we need to do as a county, as much as we can, is keep our autonomy without having encroachment from federal and state government, manage our county without having to be dictated to, from the outside perspective, what we must do. Another thing we must do is make our small towns, make our cities attractive so that people will have some reason to stay in Mahaska County.”
Doland says that he hopes to continue listening to the needs of Mahaska County residents, and work to best implement those “for the greater good of all of Mahaska County.”
