Mahaska County Man Dies in Grain Bin Accident Near Oskaloosa

On the 17th day of February, 2026, at approximately 10:13 am, emergency crews were dispatched to a rural Mahaska County residence located near the intersection of 175th Street and Jersey Avenue. Information received was in regard to a farming accident that involved a 74 year old male who had fallen and was trapped inside of a grain bin. Upon their arrival emergency personnel discovered that the individual was deceased.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance with the recovery: Mahaska County Dispatch Center, Oskaloosa Fire Department and Rescue Team, New Sharon Fire Department, New Sharon Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Mahaska Health Partnership and the Oskaloosa Water Department.
