Mahaska County Man Charged With Going Armed With Intent After Weekend Incident

On Sunday, October 14th, 2018, at approximately 12:30 p.m., members of the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 2600 block of 248t h Street, located in rural Mahaska County, in reference to a disturbance. While Deputies were en route, further information was received indicating that a male subject was holding another male subject at gunpoint at this location. Upon a Deputy’s arrival, it was discovered that the suspect had fled the area in a vehicle.

A short time later, Deputies and members of the Oskaloosa Police Department located the suspect vehicle in the 1800 block of A Avenue East within Oskaloosa. A traffic stop of this vehicle was initiated and 18-year-old Jacob Michael Mason was taken into custody. During this traffic stop, Law Enforcement located and seized a semi-automatic rifle, loaded gun magazine, a quantity of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and various items of drug paraphernalia.

Jacob Michael Mason, of 2662 248th Street, Oskaloosa, was charged with Going Armed with Intent (class C felony), Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (aggravated misdemeanor), Possession of a schedule II controlled substance (serious misdemeanor) and Possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). Mason made his initial appearance in the Mahaska County Magistrate’s Court earlier today and his bond was set in the amount of $8,000 cash or surety.
