Mahaska County Man Charged With Sexual Assault

On November 8th, 2017, the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office received the complaint of a possible sexual abuse of a 3 1/2 year old female at a rural address within Mahaska County. Following an investigation into this complaint, on November 30th, 2017, Sheriff’s Officials filed the charge of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse (a class B felony) against 30-year-old Justin Douglas Schaefer of 2245 Independence Avenue. A warrant was issued for Schaefer’s arrest.

Schaefer was taken into custody, pursuant to this warrant, on Friday, December 1st. He was arrested at 118 Short Street in Taintor and transported to the Mahaska County Jail where he remains on a $50,000 bond.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by the Department of Human Services and St. Luke’s Child Protection Center located in Hiawatha, Iowa.

A criminal charge is merely a criminal charge and not an indication of guilt. All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
