University Park, IA– Samantha Keith announced she will run for Iowa House District 79, which includes the communities of Oskaloosa and Pella. Keith is a second generation Iowan, wife, community volunteer, and Mahaska county Crisis Intervention Services Advocate.

Keith, through her experience as an advocate for victims of sexual assault at Crisis Intervention Services and active community volunteer, understands the need to bring Iowans of both parties together to solve the stark challenges facing our state.

“I’ve decided to run because I care about the people of Mahaska and Marion counties. I live and work here and help people through crises of their own every day. I want to give citizens of Mahaska and Marion counties a voice at the legislative level. We need to put people before special interests; that means electing folks who want to make a difference every day rather than just get re-elected. This is beyond party labels for me; I want to represent my community and the people I help every single day.”

Keith was raised in Ottumwa by public servants; her father, a firefighter, and her mother, an educator. Samantha’s parents adopted her younger brother, whose hardships and resilience inspired her to work in human services. Keith attended Ottumwa High School and then went on to earn her degree at William Penn University. She now lives in University Park with her husband, Ricky Corcoran, a William Penn University admissions counselor and football coach.

“I have witnessed firsthand the struggles of individuals and families in Mahaska and Marion counties. I care about these issues and the status quo at the state capital is just not working for people in district 79,” says Keith. “We need jobs with good benefits and fair wages, a strong public education system, and affordable and accessible health care for all Iowans. I have the passion, experience, and motivation to fight for hard working Iowa families. I do this every day in my career at Crisis Intervention Services; and it will be an honor to represent you at in the Iowa House of Representatives.”

Samantha is heavily invested in her community and volunteers outside of work regularly. She is a member of PFLAG Oskaloosa, Progressive Oskaloosa, the Mahaska Community Partnership for Protecting Children, Oskaloosa Community Behavior Wraparound Committee, and volunteers with the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter. Outside of volunteering, she enjoys reading, walking her dog, spending time with her friends and family, and going to William Penn University games.
