Mahaska County CERT Continues To Grow

A team from Clow Valve finishes their testing. The group will now join the overall team in the Mahaska County CERT program

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County CERT Team continues to grow with the addition of a new team from Clow Valve in Oskaloosa. The team has completed the normal in-class training that the New Sharon Teen group as well as the group from Jubilee Family Church has taken.

Clow will be supporting 2 teams, one with 10 members and the second one will have 8 members, bringing the Mahaska County CERT Team to 30+ members in its organization.

Mahaska County Emergency Manager Jamey Robinson is working with a couple of other businesses that are looking at adding teams. Robinson is always on the look out for more volunteers. If you are interested in learning more about what CERT is you can visit www.mahaskaready.com to find out in greater detail what the program can do for you and your business, and what your business would then be able to do for the community. The business owner has no obligation to anyone in the deal, but it offers many rewards.

The Mahaska County Emergency Management is preparing for an upcoming full-scale disaster exercise in the county in the near future. If you would like to take part as a “dead” person or “walking wounded”, you can also contact Emergency Management with that information.

John Grahek of Clow Valve said, “Any kind of training that we can do to help people prepare for a situation we hope never happens. It will benefit the community too because now we can contribute to the situation in the community that may happen that our people are trained and informed on.”

And this is the prime example that Robinson is talking about. It works well for Clow to have trained personnel to help in an emergency at the business location, but in turn has people that can help the community in a time of need as well.
