Lubertha Denney, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born April 23, 1928, near Otley, Iowa, in Marion County, the daughter of Garbreg and Anna Kool Klyn.

Lubertha graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1947.

On March 4, 1949, she was united in marriage to Lloyd M. Denney in Oskaloosa. Lloyd died April 28, 2020. Following their marriage Lubertha stayed home to care for their home and young family.

Once her children were all in school, she worked in retail as a sales clerk for over 20 years. Last she worked at Brady Shoe Store retiring from there in 1995.

Lubertha was very talented at doing needlework and sewing. She also enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts especially painting ceramics. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church. She and Lloyd enjoyed traveling the Midwest and attending Bluegrass Festivals. When they were not camping at Bluegrass festivals, they could be found camping at Lake Red Rock near Pella. Her family was the center of her life and she delighted in cooking and baking for all of them.

Her family includes her children: Craig (& Diana) Denney of Geneseo, Illinois, Karen (& Marvin) Hulbert of Longmont, Colorado, and Kristi Clark of Farmington, Iowa; a daughter in law, Gerry Denney of Marion, Iowa; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Lloyd, Lubertha was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Roger Denney; a son-in-law, Larry Clark; and a great granddaughter, Tessa Hulbert.

As was Lubertha’s wish her body has been cremated.
A memorial service for both Lubertha and her husband Lloyd will be held Friday, January 8, 2020 at 10:00 AM in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Chad Lierman officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
The memorial service will be live streamed at the funeral home’s YouTube Channel for those wishing to support the family from a distance.
Memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church or MHP Hospice Serenity House.
