The Grinnell Tigers are one of the top 3A teams in the State. That along with the fact that Osky and Grinnell play in one of the best 3A conferences in the State means that you need to come with your very best every night you step on the floor in the Little Hawkeye Conference … That didn’t happen for the Indians Monday night as they fell to Grinnell 78-50.

Coming into the game the Tigers had 7 loses, but all to very good basketball teams, and they were looking to take their frustrations out on the Indians right from the get go. The Tigers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on two easy baskets from 6 ft. in. Osky answered with “Mr. Consistant” Spencer Medlin on a lay in and Osky was on the board. Grinnell’s passing was something to watch as they were carving up Osky on some great ball movement and feeds down low. Osky couldn’t respond quick enough as they saw the lead expand to 10-2. A Ryan Reiter basket on the baseline followed by a put back from Sophomore Wade Votroubek had Osky down 14-6. The Quarter ended on a Grinnell run as they led after one quarter 23-8.

Osky’s defense was no match for the Tigers as Grinnell hit a wide open 3 which was answered by a Medlin bank shot. Reiter made a couple baskets, trying to keep the Indians within reach. Junior Jordan Silvers drew a foul and made both free throws, but Osky was still trailing 37-18. A long 3 pointer by Reiter and a driving lay in by Max Johnson made the score 39-23, then Medlin capped off the first half drawing a foul and making both as Osky trailed at half 43-25.

Turnovers and seeing where the ball was at all times led to Grinnell getting more great looks and easy hoops. A great pass from Freshman Jack Moore to Votroubek led to a lay in, 58-27 Tigers. The rest of the second half was Votroubek, Moore and Junior Nate Van Veldhuizen doing most of the damage on offense for Osky, as Moore and Votroubek hit 3 combined 3’s and VanVeldhuizen was aggressive going to the basket. Unfortunately, the same familiar outcome was in store for Osky as they tumbled to the Tigers 78-50.

Osky was led by the Freshman Moore,12 pts., Reiter with 11 pts. Votroubek with 9 pts., Medlin 8pts. and Van Veldhuizen with 4 pts.

Oskaloosa is back in action Tuesday night as they take on the Chariton Chargers in Oskaloosa.
