Lloyd M. Denney, 91, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at the Northern Mahaska Specialty Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born October 7, 1928, north of Rose Hill, Iowa, the son of James and Irene Ferguson Denney.

Lloyd attended country school near Rose Hill.

On March 4, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lubertha Klyn in Oskaloosa.

Following their marriage Lloyd farmed the family farm. Lloyd lost his arm in a farming accident in the fall of 1959, at that time Lloyd took a job in town working in the mill at Wake’s Feed. He retired from there in 1984. He then took a job at Iowa Trust Bank (now TruBank) working as the janitor for a couple of years. Last he worked as the custodian at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. He retired from there in 1995.

Lloyd was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed camping and attending Bluegrass Festivals. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching football, baseball, and NASCAR. He also enjoyed watching Westerns, tending to his yard and vegetable garden, and going to auctions and especially listening to the auctioneers.

His family includes his wife of over 71 years, Lubertha Denney of Oskaloosa; their children: Craig (& Diana) Denney of Geneseo, Illinios, Karen (& Marvin) Hulbert of Longmont, Colorado, and Kristi Clark of Farmington, Iowa; a daughter in law, Gerry Denney of Marion, Iowa; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Denney of Waynesville, North Carolina.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger Denney; a son-in-law, Larry Clark; a great granddaughter, Tessa Hulbert; a brother, Raymond Denney; and a sister and her husband, Barbara and Tom Jones.

As was Lloyd’s wish his body has been cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
At this time plans for a celebration of life ceremony are on hold until all of the restrictions put in place by the department of public health are lifted.
