Linda Applegate, 81 of New Sharon passed away Tuesday morning, December 12, 2023 at the Pella Hopsice Comfort House.
Linda Kay Applegate, the daughter of Glen and Mary Lou Small, was born on September 2, 1942 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Linda graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1960.
On July 3, 1959, Linda was united in marriage to Larry Applegate in the St. James Episcipal Church in Oskaloosa. To this union one daughter was born, Sheryl.
Linda was first a homemaker then worked for Larry’s family in Applegate Grocery Store in New Sharon. She also helped out at Reed Flower Shop and also held a few other jobs before working for CL Barnhouse in Oskaloosa. She worked several years there before hurting her back in 1982 and was unable to continue to work.
Linda enjoyed reading and working in the flower shop.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Larry Applegate of New Sharon; her grandson, Ben (Jessica) Thompson of West Des Moines; great grandsons, Dylan and Owen; three half brothers, Dennis Small, Curtis Small and Dean Small; and many other relatives and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Sheryl Applegate in 2012.
As was her wish, her body will be cremated and a private graveside service will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
