On January 29th, we as residents of Mahaska County have the opportunity to vote in the special election for County Supervisor. As voters we should not be considering the candidates based on political affiliation, but we should be focused on selecting a candidate that can provide progress and future relevance for our county. Tom Rielly has the experience and skills necessary to fulfill the role of County Supervisor and to build a healthy future for our area.

Tom understands that we need to respect and learn from yesterday, but we can’t cling to it. Holding on to yesterday will most certainly drive our county to irrelevance. We must manage our tax dollars wisely, and supervise our county activities effectively. But we must also be innovative and embrace change to ensure economic growth in our county through modern infrastructure development. Further, all governmental entities in the county need to work together towards combined efficiency, and must display transparency in their decisions and actions. I’m confident Tom Rielly shares my vision on these principles of local government, and he is the candidate that will parlay his private business ownership experience with his years as Mayor and State Senator to lead Mahaska County in a positive direction.

As a Republican I look forward to casting my vote for Tom Rielly on Tuesday, January 29th. And I trust you will consider voting for Tom as well.

Sincerely,
Doug Yates
Oskaloosa City Council – 3rd Ward
