Leo Cal Denburger, 84, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa.
Leo was born August 29, 1928, in Oskaloosa the son of Fred and Avis DeLong Denburger. He attended Union Country School through the 8th grade and went on to graduate from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1946. He furthered his education at A.I.B. in Des Moines.
On March 16, 1949, Leo married the love of his life Blanche Vande Lune in Oskaloosa. Leo worked as a book keeper and office manager for several businesses in Oskaloosa including Oskaloosa Oil and Binns and Stevens. In September of 1959, he went to work as a payroll clerk for Bloom Builders. He retired from there in 1981, as the general manager. In retirement Leo worked various jobs and he enjoyed volunteering. He especially enjoyed his work at the animal shelter. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa and attended Goods News Chapel. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge. Leo grew up on a farm and had a lifelong love of farming. When his health would allow he was an avid golfer.
His family includes his wife of over 64 years, Blanche Denburger of Oskaloosa; three children and their spouses, Linda and Steve Ottilie of Marshalltown, Doug and Debbie Denburger of Oskaloosa and Joan and Bruce Hall of Ankeny; eight grandchildren, Susan, Angie, Ryan, Matt, Alan, Grant, Allison, and Joseph; seven great grandchildren; and a sister Lois Bainbridge of Oskaloosa.
He left us quietly, his thoughts unknown, but he left us a memory, we are proud to own. So treasure him Lord, in your garden of rest, for when on earth, he was one of the best. Dear Lord, take a message to Heaven above, tell him we miss him, and give him our love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his twin brother, Leland Denburger.
Honoring Leo’s final act of generosity, his body has been donated to the University of Iowa so that others may benefit through medical research.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
A memorial has been established in his name.
