Leland Glen Hintz, 74, of Des Moines passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Taylor House in Des Moines after an extended illness. Leland was born August 30, 1940, the son of Walter and Alveta (McEwen) Hintz.
Leland grew up in Hedrick, IA, where he graduated from high school in 1959. He graduated from William Penn College in 1963. Leland married Charlotte (Walker) of Rose Hill, IA, in 1965. They lived in Des Moines throughout their 49-year marriage, raising a son, Craig, and a daughter, Tina.
Leland retired from the Post Office after 30 years as a letter carrier. He also served six years in an Iowa National Guard Medic Corps.
Leland was active in the Capitol Hill Christian Church as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Food Pantry delivery person, Memorial Committee member, and in other positions.
He enjoyed vacationing in Branson, MO, especially seeing the Christmas and Veterans’ Day shows. He also enjoyed attending and camping at the Iowa State Fair, a family tradition dating back to 1948.
Leland is survived by his wife, Charlotte Hintz of Des Moines; a son, Craig Hintz of Rose Hill, IA; a daughter, Tina (& Scott) Cronbaugh of Raymond, IA; granddaughter, McKenna Cronbaugh; and other loved ones including a brother-in-law and wife: Leland (& Mary) Walker of Cumming, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law: Ruth (& Raymond) Walker; two sisters-in-law: Joan (& Leland) Walker, and Rhonda Walker; as well as a niece, Laura Walker.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Capitol Hill Christian Church in Des Moines.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 2:30 P.M. at the Tioga Cemetery, Southeast of Rose Hill, IA with Reverend Candice Brown officiating both services. Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the local arrangements.
Following the burial there will be a coffee time at the Rose Hill Ruritan Building in Rose Hill.
