Laura M. Hol, 72, of rural Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at her home in Mahaska County. She was born October 22, 1948, in Prairie City, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Wilma Branderhorst Van Zee.

Laura attended Prairie City Christian School through 8th grade and went on to graduate from Pella Christian High School with the class of 1966. Following graduation, she worked at the Vernon Company in Newton for three years.

On January 17, 1969, she was united in marriage to William Hol at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church in Prairie City, Iowa.

Laura and William moved to the family dairy farm in rural Mahaska County. Laura was active helping on the farm in addition to tending to her family and home.

Laura’s gift of music was enjoyed by many throughout her life. She used her musical talents to glorify God and share the Gospel throughout her life. She volunteered countless hours singing and playing in care facilities in the area. She was an active member of the Cedar Christian Reformed Church in Cedar where she sang and played the piano for many years. She also served as a GEMS Counselor at the church for over 20 years. She enjoyed scrapbooking and doing crafts. Her family was one of her greatest joys, she looked forward to them stopping by, especially when the grandchildren were along, and sharing about their day or helping with a project. As much as she looked forward to their visits, they looked forward to her sharing what she had cooked or baked that day with all of them.

Her family includes her husband of over 52 years William Hol of Oskaloosa; three sons and their wives: Bill and Darcy Hol of Oskaloosa, Mike and Michelle Hol of Oskaloosa, and Brian and Susan Hol of Drakesville; eleven grandchildren; a sister-in-law, June (& Paul) Vande Noord of Pella; a special niece, Julie (& Niles) Van Dyke of Prairie City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jim Van Zee (died in 1983); and her father and mother-in-law, Marion and Anna Hol.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. in the White Oak Cemetery east of Oskaloosa with Reverend John Ritsema officiating.
A procession will form at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa at 9:50 Saturday morning for those wishing to attend the service. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Open visitation will begin Friday after 11:00 a.m. remain open until 6:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Oskaloosa Christian Grade School.
