Grinnell College Athletics

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College football coach Jeff Pedersen ’02 has announced the hiring of Kyle Wantland as the Pioneers’ recruiting coordinator and assistant coach.

Wantland will coach the Pioneer quarterbacks and running backs.

He has vast coaching experience after graduating from Monmouth College in 2010 with a degree in history. He was on the Fighting Scots’ staff in 2011 as a wide receivers coach and then coached receivers for two years at St. Ambrose University in Davenport as a graduate assistant, gaining his master’s degree in organizational leadership.

After that he was the receivers coach at Methodist University, an NCAA Division III school in Fayetteville, N.C. In 2016, Wantland took his skills abroad and served as offensive coordinator of the Allgaue Comets of the German Football League.

A native of Fisher, Ill., he recently was inducted into the Fisher Athletic Hall of Fame.

“I’m truly excited to be in Grinnell,” said Wantland. “This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, but I’m even more excited to get to work and help us continue to build this program and win a lot of football games.”
