Knoxville Woman Dies After Home Catches On Fire

At about 12:21 a.m. on February 18, 2018 Knoxville Police and Fire & Rescue Departments were called to the 200 block Terrace Lane for the report of a possible structure fire. Arriving units found a smoke filled home with two people sitting on a front porch. The people were moved to a police car to get them out of the weather. While in the police car one of the two became unresponsive. CPR was begun. The 70-year-old woman was transported to Knoxville Hospital & Clinics by Knoxville Fire & Rescue. She was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

In addition to Knoxville Fire-Rescue, units from Knoxville Township Fire, Pella City Fire, and Pella Community Ambulance were called for assistance. The Marion County Attorney’s Office, Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office, Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office, Marion County Medical Examiner’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation were all contacted to assist in the investigation. The Red Cross was called to assist the people living in the home.

The name of the deceased is being held pending notification of the next of kin.
