Knox and Grinnell Battle to Scoreless Draw

Grinnell, IA – The men’s soccer teams of Knox College and Grinnell College fought to a 0-0 draw in a tightly contested match on October 1, 2024, at Springer Field. Both teams were unable to find the back of the net despite numerous attempts, as solid defensive performances and standout goalkeeping kept the game in a deadlock.

Grinnell (2-3-5, 0-0-2) had the upper hand offensively, registering 18 total shots compared to Knox’s 8. However, Knox goalkeeper Nicolas Lantzendorffer was a brick wall, making seven saves to preserve the clean sheet for his team. His counterpart, Jayson Kunkel of Grinnell, faced less pressure but still made two key saves during the match.

Knox (3-5-2, 0-0-1) struggled to break through Grinnell’s defense, managing just two shots on target out of their eight attempts. Forward Tomás Ramos led the Prairie Fire with three shots, but his efforts couldn’t breach Grinnell’s well-organized backline.

Grinnell created more opportunities, with midfielder Zak Serby leading the Pioneers with four shots, three of which were on target. Despite the attacking edge, Grinnell couldn’t capitalize on its chances, partly due to Lantzendorffer’s impressive goalkeeping.

The match remained scoreless through two halves, with both teams unable to convert any of the nine combined corner kicks into scoring opportunities. Fouls were relatively even, with Knox committing 10 and Grinnell 9.

Despite the lack of goals, both teams displayed a high level of intensity and organization as they look to improve their standing in conference play.

Final Score: Knox 0, Grinnell 0
Records: Knox (3-5-2, 0-0-1), Grinnell (2-3-5, 0-0-2)
