Kenneth “Ken” Gordon Groenenboom, age 90, of Oskaloosa went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the Mahaska Health Serenity House. He was the son of Peter and Jennie (Heslinga) Groenenboom and was born in the New Sharon, IA area on May 30, 1929.

Ken graduated from the Lacey High School. On February 14, 1952 he was united in marriage to Ruth Van Gilst and together they began their life in agriculture.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth; eight children: Patricia (& Bob) Deur, Norma (& Wavern) Rozenboom, Duane (& Sue) Groenenboom, Linda (& Stan) Laverman, Traci (& Richard) Schmitt, Dan (& Deb) Groenenboom, Joel (& Laura) Groenenboom, and Judy (& Carl) Faber; 32 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Their extended family included: Chiu and Lien Lau and their daughters, Thanh (& Daniel) Lam and children, and Effendi (& Fen Fen) Leobandung and sons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Harlan and Janet Groenenboom and daughter-in-law, Laura Groenenboom.

A memorial service will be on Thursday, August 15 at 10:30 AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Oskaloosa with Pastor Paul Hoekstra officiating.
Interment will be in the Forest Cemetery of Oskaloosa. Langkamp Funeral Home is in charge of the services.
Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church; the family will greet relatives and friends from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday evening.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Ken and his desire to bless others, memorials can be made to the Oskaloosa Christian School or Oskaloosa Special Olympics.
