KATE GLUCKMAN RESIGNS AS GRINNELL COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL COACH

GRINNELL, Iowa – Kate Gluckman has announced her resignation as Grinnell College women’s basketball coach after guiding the Pioneers for the past five seasons.

Gluckman, who also served as an assistant track and field coach for the Pioneers, is moving with her partner to Mississippi, where he has accepted a teaching position at Delta State University.

Gluckman’s teams won 23 games over the past two seasons, the best two-year stretch for the Pioneers since the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. Grinnell also won 20 Midwest Conference games during that time, the most league victories in a two-year span in school history.

The 20011-12 team went 12-11 overall and 11-7 in the MWC, both best marks for the program since the 2003-04 campaign.

Gluckman coached 31 Academic All-Conference honorees, four All-MWC picks and one Academic All-Region selection.

“It is difficult to see Coach Gluckman leave Grinnell,” said Greg Wallace, the College’s Director of Athletics and Recreation. “She worked hard to build a competitive program, and that hard work has paid off in terms of success in recent seasons. As great a job she did with our basketball and track and field programs, she did an equally fantastic job teaching and in her work with SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee).”

“It has been an absolute pleasure being part of the Grinnell community these past five years, and I leave with sadness and a sense of deep appreciation,” said Gluckman. “I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach the Pioneers and to represent Grinnell from the sidelines.

“I would like to thank my colleagues in the Athletic Department for their mentoring and support, and Greg Wallace for his guidance and leadership during my tenure with the College,” she added. “We have tremendous student-athletes and alumni within our program and I look forward to watching their success on and off the court in the years to come.”
