Karen Johnson, 67, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the MHP Hospital Emergency Room. She was born June 10, 1954, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth and Darlene Newell Hunt.

Karen grew up in Lacey and graduated from North Mahaska High School with the class of 1973.

Following graduation, she moved to Chicago and worked as a nanny. After a few years in Chicago, she moved back to Iowa. She worked in housekeeping first at the old Mahaska Manor and last at the MHP Hospital. She also did in-home day care for several years.

In retirement she cared for her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing games on her computer.

Her family includes her three children: Josh Johnson of Cedar, Nathan Johnson of Pella, and Amber Johnson of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Anabell, Ella, Emma, Jason, and Seth; two brothers, Roy Hunt of Alabama and Max (& Mary) Hunt of Grinnell; and a sister, Linda Mattix of Oskaloosa.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Kathy Rozendall; two brothers, Kenny Hunt and Randy Hunt; and two nephews, Joshua Hunt and Adam Steele.

The family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Monday, January 3, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives and share stories and memories.
As was Karen’s wish her body has been cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
