November 1, 1939 – November 6, 2022
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 83

Judith Anne Smith, 83, of Oskaloosa, went to eternal rest on Sunday, November 6th, 2022, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. Judith “Judy” Anne (Klingler) Smith was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on November 1st, 1939, to Irvin R. and Emily A. (Berendes) Klingler.

The family lived in University Park, and Judy loved spending time with her horse Rosie and her dog. She also had a garden where she grew produce for her family and would sell it throughout their neighborhood.

Judy attended Oskaloosa High School, playing basketball and working at the Milky Way Dairy. Growing up, she rode her bicycle from University Park to Edmundson swimming pool most summer days, and it was at the pool where she met Ted in 1954.

Judy married Theodore William Smith of Oskaloosa on April 19th, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa.

They lived in Knoxville briefly before moving to Council Bluffs in 1960, so Ted could work at Dodge Park Golf Course.

In 1965, they moved back to Oskaloosa, where they began their golf course management career at Edmundson Golf Course. They lived in the clubhouse, and Judy managed the clubhouse while raising their family. Judy and Ted worked long days at the golf course, from sun up to sun down, seven days a week in the spring, summer, and fall. Judy was a master at juggling her responsibilities and keeping her home, children, and clubhouse running smoothly. In 1986, when their son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lori, took over the golf course management, they moved out of the clubhouse and into the house they currently reside in today. They continued to work with their son, Judy in the Clubhouse and Ted on the course, until 1999, when they retired after 34 years of serving golfers in Oskaloosa.

Through the years, the couple traveled and attended many golf tournaments and basketball games. Judy and Ted enjoyed bowling in the “off-season” and going to the Platime and Stonehenge supper clubs for dinner, music, and dancing.

Judy was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Oskaloosa. She ensured all her children were raised in the Catholic Church, attending Sunday Mass, CCD, and being Altar Servers. Ted and Judy were married for 64 years!

Judy’s family includes her husband, Ted of Oskaloosa; sons: Jeffrey (& Lori) Smith of Oskaloosa, Steven (& Carreen) Smith of Progresso, Mexico, Jerry (& Jennifer) Smith of Scottsdale, AZ, and Michael Smith (& Kelli Van Egmond) of Oskaloosa, IA; and her daughter, Jeannie (& Ross) Kingma of Oskaloosa, IA. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Meghan (& Brett) Pleima of Des Moines, IA, Tyler Smith of Scottsdale, AZ, Olivia Smith and Giavanna Smith of Scottsdale, AZ.

In addition to her parents, Judy is preceded in death by her brother, Clark Klingler.
