Joyce D. Gorsuch, 78, of Barnes City, died Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born January 1, 1939, near Walker, Iowa, the daughter of William and Elsie Hartson Reed.

Following high school, Joyce worked at Collins in Cedar Rapids for a short time.

Joyce was united in marriage to William Gorsuch. Following their marriage, she helped William on the farm. The two of them later divorced.

Following their divorce, Joyce worked at Ben Franklin in Montezuma for many years.

She enjoyed painting and gardening. She loved animals, especially her cats.

Her family includes many nieces and nephews; her special friend, Lyle Davis of Barnes City, and his family.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Geneva Weis, Maxine Phipps, Rosaline Gerckie, and Ruth Phipps; and two brothers, Kenneth Reed and William Reed.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Private burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Walker, Iowa at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family present will be held Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House.
