Joseph Fletcher, age 60, of Oskaloosa, passed away on September 26, 2021, at the MHP Hospital in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was born on February 26, 1961, the son of Ora Sr. and Donna (Field) Fletcher in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Joseph attended Ottumwa High School and graduated with the Class of 1980.

In October 1982, Joseph was united in marriage to Jane Sapp in Ottumwa, Iowa. To this union 2 children were born, Joseph “Joey” Jr. and Jennifer. Jane and Joseph later divorced.

In June of 1993, he was united in marriage to Barbara Hudson in Oskaloosa.

Joseph worked as a welder at Pamco in Oskaloosa and later Vermeer in Pella, Iowa. He also worked as a painter for Dielman Painting. Lastly, he worked as a cab driver for Ottumwa Cab and That Cab, a job he thoroughly enjoyed.

Joseph loved anything involving nature and being outdoors, including mushroom and rock hunting, camping and hiking. He also enjoyed watching Kansas City Chiefs Football and had a special love for his dogs. Family was at the center of Joseph’s life, and they meant the world to him, especially his grandchildren.

His family includes his wife, Barbara Fletcher of Oskaloosa; his two children, Joey (& Jen) Fletcher Jr. of Fremont, Iowa and Jennifer Houk of Ottumwa; his grandchildren: Alexis Fletcher, Brady Messamaker, MaKenzie Fletcher, Mason Fletcher, Manuel Ramirez, Javier Ramirez, Arianna Wharton, Olivia McCLendon and Jayda McClendon; his step-children: Amanda Ramirez and Tabitha (& Anthony) McClendon; his brother, Ora Fletcher Jr. of Oskaloosa; his step-siblings: Tina Padgett of Ottumwa, Darlene Denniston of Oskaloosa, Teresa (& David) Schafer of Seattle, WA., Rebecca Koontz of Oskaloosa, Richard (& Laura) Fletcher of Millerton, IA and Karen Kay Fletcher.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Ora Sr. and Donna Fletcher; a sister, Julie Yi; his stepmother, Ruth Denniston Fletcher, a stepson, Dave Allgood; his former mother-in-law, Leona Briles; and his mother-in-law, Evangeline Slycord.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.
