Janice E. Gleason, 71, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, December 2, 2016, at MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born Tuesday, September 11, 1945, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Delbert B. and Clara L. Price Malin.

Janice graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the Class of 1964. On March 5, 1965, Janice was united in marriage to John Gleason in Oskaloosa.

Early on, Janice worked as a car hop at Mart and Jeff’s in Oskaloosa. She later worked at the Continental Overall Factory in Oskaloosa and as a switchboard operator at Mahaska Hospital for several years. She then went to work as the secretary at College Avenue Friends Church. Lastly, Janice worked in the food program at the elementary school and the junior high. While her children were in school, Janice only worked during the school year so she could be at home with her children during the summer.

Janice was a member of the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa and was active in PTA while her children were in school. She enjoyed making cakes, flowers, gardening, volunteering at Hospice, visiting with people at the nursing homes, cooking family dinners and being with her family.

Her family includes her husband of over 51 years, John Gleason of Oskaloosa; a son, David (& Stacey) Gleason of Oskaloosa; two daughters: Darlene Anderson of Oskaloosa and Diane (& Jeff) Clouse of Oskaloosa; 7 grandchildren: Daniel and Timothy Gleason, Zachary Jones, Kyle and Logan Anderson and Jacob and Emma Clouse; two great grandchildren: Bentlee and Beckham, and a third due in March; two brothers: Leslie (& Lorena) Malin of Pella and Darrell (& Sachiko) Malin of Prescott Valley, Arizona; three sisters: Wauneta (& Glenn) Gerard of Oskaloosa, Sue McNaughton of Indianola and Gail Malin (& Ed Meggers) of Iowa City; a sister-in-law, Wanda Vander Werf of Pella; three brothers-in-law: Thomas (& Jean) Gleason of Orlando, Florida, William Gleason of Tracy and Ray (& Mary) Gleason of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers: Rodney and Larry Malin.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at 10 AM in the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Rodney De Ronde officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, December 6, 2016, after 11 AM in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Tuesday from 5 – 7 PM to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House.
