James J. Coady, age 72, of Albia, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019, surrounded by his loved ones, at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia, IA. Jim was born on October 26, 1946, to Edward “Ed” James and Mary (Lynch) Coady of Georgetown, Monroe County, Iowa.
Jim graduated from Albia High School class of 1964.
Jim was inducted into the U.S. Army in May 1967 and took training at Fort Campbell, KY and Fort Sam Houston TX. He served a year in Vietnam, being assigned to the clearing station at An Khe and later at Phu Bai where he worked as a medic and also did clerical work.
After returning home from the Vietnam War, Jim went to work for his dad, owner of Coady and Son Plumbing and Heating. Jim worked hard and continued to build Coady Plumbing and Heating Inc. into a successful business providing plumbing and site work for large commercial development state wide.
He was united in marriage to Donna Edwards of Russell, Iowa on September 1, 1967, and they built a life together, enjoying 52 years of marriage. They were blessed with their only child Terry.
Jim “The Bear” loved to play golf and play courses that the PGA players play. He loved being with his golfing buddies and inserting his one liner jokes that would provide laughs and memories for all to remember.
Jim will always be remembered by his beloved wife, Donna; his son, Terry (& Kathy) Coady of Ankeny; his two grandchildren: Samantha and Jared; his sisters: Kareen (& Bob) Garrison and Justine (& George) Collins; and his brother, Donnie Coady.
He will be fondly remembered by a large extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his baby brother; and his sister, Mary Bernadine Greiner.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jim’s family present to greet family and friends.
A rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. led by St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Society.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 11, 2019, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Georgetown, with Father Mark Yates, C.PP.S. officiating.
Burial will follow services at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Georgetown.
Military rites will be provided by the American Legion of Albia, Melrose and Lovilia.
A memorial has been established to the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial in Albia.
