James Cocking, 75 of Fairborn, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. James Robert Cocking was born on December 16, 1948 in Moline, Illinois to Harold and Cheryl Hoerler Cocking.

James attended and graduated from Grinnell High School in Grinnell, Iowa. He went on to attend the University of Upper Iowa and received his BA Degree.

James was united in marriage to Mary Johnson at the Grinnell Christian Church on March 15, 1969. They became the parents of two sons, James and Chadwick.

James enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a Navy Chief Petty Officer. After he was honorably discharged, he worked at the Principal Financial Group and later was self-employed as a General Contractor.

James enjoyed bowling, golf, traveling, and most of all working in the Church while participating in teaching Sunday School, bible studies, helping with maintenance, and going on mission trips. He was also a deacon and elder in the local church for many years. He was a member of the VFW and New Beginning Christian Church. He enjoyed his family and most of all his grandchildren.

James’ memory will be honored by his wife, Mary, of Fairborn, Ohio; his children, James (Korey) Cocking of Brookville, Ohio and Chadwick (Tiffany) Cocking of Canton, Georgia; his grandchildren, Hunter Cocking, Jacob Cocking, Raymee Cocking, Lula Cocking, Mylee Cocking, and Zander Cocking; his brother, Kent (Laurie) Cocking and his sister, Sherri (Jim) Barns, as well as many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Cheryl Cocking.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 14, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the New Beginning Christian Church in Enon, Ohio.
Burial will be held privately in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to the New Beginning Christian Church in Enon, Ohio.

Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of the arrangements.
