Irene Fisher, age 93, of Albia, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Irene was born on January 5, 1927, at home in Monroe County to Joe and Iva (Downing) Harmon.

On August 25, 1945, she married Kenneth Fisher in Unionville, MO, and to this union 2 children, Frances “Darlene” and Michael “Mike”, were born. Irene and Kenneth shared 62 years of marriage prior to Kenneth’s passing on August 18, 2007.

Irene held several jobs in Albia over the years, including working at Smith Laundry, Behnkes Famous Fryers, Chamberlain’s, DeLong’s and Monroe Care Center.

Irene was a member of Blakesburg Saddle Club and enjoyed going on rides and being in parades. She loved antiques and enjoyed collecting bears, Jewel T dishes and furniture. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, scrapbooking, and watching westerns, especially John Wayne. Irene also enjoyed being outdoors and gardening, especially tomatoes and hot peppers, as well as canning and making homemade noodles. Above all, her true joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and she loved her dog, Little Bobby.

Irene is survived by her children: Frances “Darlene” Sisler, Michael “Mike” Glen Fisher, and Scott Rupp; 5 grandchildren: Lisa (& Jeff) Demry, Ilene (& Russell) Smith, Loren (& Missy) Sisler, Eric Sisler, and Amanda (& Randy) Burns; 14 great grandchildren: Megan Kirk, Michael Kirk, Baylie Hoffman, Brooklynn Bennett, Blake Smith, McKenize (& Spencer) Stuffelbeam, Colton Smith, Erika Sisler, Kyle Sisler, Joshua Sisler, Zachary Sisler, Matthew Sisler, Kenlie Burns, and Ryder Burns; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents, Joe and Iva Harmon; a grandson, Aaron Fisher; a son-in-law, Ron Sisler; 3 sisters: Rose, Mary, and Frances; 5 brothers: Pete, Gene, Bill, Ray, and Roy; and 2 half-sisters, Maggie and Edith.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with the family present to greet family and friends.
Due to the current State of Public Health Disaster Emergency and the COVID-19 pandemic, the visitation will be limited to ten individuals in the building at a time.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2020, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Andy Yoder officiating.
Burial will follow services at the Blakesburg Cemetery in Blakesburg, IA.
