Indians Volleyball Little Hawkeye Champs

by Jennifer Comfort

The #6 4A Oskaloosa Indians came into the Little Hawkeye Conference Tournament as the #1 seed and they defended their position and came home LITTLE HAWKEYE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!!! The regular-season championship was the second in three years, but this was the first Tournament Championship since it was started in 2016.

I’m VERY PROUD of how this team played during the tournament. We knew this was a big night for us. The girls were focused, ready to play, and had their eyes on the championship from the start. We made it to the championship match last year against Pella, but lost in two sets by a total of four points. We avenged that loss this year and also set ourselves up for home court advantage for Regionals. I thought we played at our level all night and excelled at the serve-receive battle in each match. I’ve been challenging the athletes to be relentless on defense and effective when involved in the offense, and that was a big improvement and a reason why we dominated most of the matches. We are peaking at the right time with still some work to do as we prepare for Regionals. Most importantly, we are working as a team towards the same goal: winning a GREEN BANNER!
