Indians Softball Struggling In Little Hawkeye Conference

The Oskaloosa Softball team lost their 7th straight Little Hawkeye game as the Pella Lady Dutch went home with a 10-0 win in 6 innings. The Indians had defeated Pella 7-2 and 15-0 on June 6 but Wednesday night at Jay Harms Field, it was all Pella. Pella rapped out 15 hits on the night off two Oskaloosa pitchers, while the Indians only managed 3 hits in the contest.

Since their last conference win on June 10, the Indians have not helped matters by committing 27 errors in the field over the past 9 games which have accounted for 26 unearned runs.

The Indians only trailed Pella 2-0 going into the top of the 3rd inning, but with two outs Pella scored 6 unearned runs to break the game open. Shannon Van Rheenen started on the mound and lasted 2 2/3 innings. She gave up 8 runs on 8 hits, only 2 runs were earned. She walked 2 and struck out 2. Presley Blommers came on in relief and pitched the last 3 1/3 innings. She gave up 2 runs – 1 earned. She did not walk or strike out any batters.

Olivia Gordon went 2-3 for the Indians and Lucy Roach had the other hit for the Indians. The Indian’s overall record falls to 8-15 on the season and 5-10 in the conference. Indianola comes to town Thursday for a varsity doubleheader with the first game starting at 5:30.
