by Jamie Brockman

The Oskaloosa Wrestlers traveled to Indianola Thursday night and came out on the short end 51-18. The dual started at 145 lbs, and Sophomore Wyatt Krier got Osky out to a quick start winning by fall in 3:31 to up his record to 6-3 on the season. Indianola answered with a : 35-second fall at 152, then Cody Gunn put the Indians in front once again, improving his record to 18-10, with his 11th fall of the season at 160. That match almost ended differently, however, as Gunn got caught on his back early in the first period and was close to being pinned himself, but fought out of it, then was able to take control.

Emmit Boender, who wrestles at 195 was home ill, so Osky forfeited at 182 and bumped Will Campbell up to wrestle at 195, but it didn’t go as planned as Campbell lost by fall in 24 seconds.

Heavyweight Kegan Mitts-Butler continued his strong season winning by decision 5-2, improving his record to 17-4, but from there it was all Indianola, as they won by fall at 106, forfeit at 113, decision at 120, and major decisions at 126 and 132 before Leland Evans ended the dual with a dominating 10-3 win for Osky at 138.

Afterward, Coach Chase Weber said they need to be more aggressive from the bottom and score points from that position and can’t give up points on the edges of the mat and be successful.

Oskaloosa is scheduled to travel to Iowa City High Saturday for a dual tournament weather permitting.
