Oskaloosa–It has been over two months since his Statesmen men’s basketball squad wrapped up the most successful campaign in school history, but Head Coach John Henry is still receiving recognition for his work in leading the group.

The Iowa Basketball Coaches Association recently presented Coach Henry with this year’s Paul Maaske Memorial Award, an honor given annually to the top non-Division I men’s and women’s coach in the state.

William Penn tallied a 34-2 record this past winter, including a 12-0 mark in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. MCC regular season and tournament champions, the navy and gold advanced to their first-ever national title game. The Statesmen were also ranked #1 in NAIA Division II for several weeks, their first trip to the top of the ratings.

In 12 years at the helm, Henry has led William Penn to a 235-156 record, including four league titles, three MCC Tournament titles, and four trips to nationals.

“This was a really unexpected honor, but I greatly appreciate the Association finding me worthy of it,” Henry said.

Paul Maaske was a long-time high school and college coach.
